If you have a goal that has been deferred too many times, stop putting it off and do something to make it real.
But what about the goal that you can’t start, and probably never will?
Sometimes, harsh though it may sound, dreams need to die. This need not be the tragedy it often feels like, however; learning to let go is an essential part of existence. All things will end, eventually, and if you can learn to look on loss with stoic equanimity, you will find the rest of your life will be happier and more productive.
Hanging on to those someday-probably-never dreams, on the other hand, will guarantee a surfeit of distraction and longing - never producing any progress, but neither allowing movement in another direction, they will anchor you and weigh you down to the desires of a self that exists only in the past.
If you want something, work for it now. If you can’t work for it now, work to change your situation to one where you can start. If you won’t do either of these things, accept that the dream is not real, and let it go. Then, decide what you will work for, and go do it.
